One EMS: Gemsa Providers conference with Chad Black

Chad Black’s Emergency Services career spans over 37 years including over 31 years in Hall County Fire, multiple board memberships, and the director and chief of Habersham EMS.

Black retired in 2016 from Hall County Fire Services as the Deputy Fire Chief where he managed a 372-member department with 16 stations and 3 battalions. Hall County includes coverage of Lake Lanier, a destination for over 10 million visitors annually. While working in Hall County he also worked part-time as a flight medic for the LifeNet/Emory Flight Programs.

Training is serious business for Black. He has over 17,000 hours training in Fire and EMS. He is a paramedic with training in Hazardous Materials, Incident Command, Emergency Operations Center Management, and Rescue Systems to list a few. Whether it is a as Chief, a Flight Paramedic, or the director of EMS, Black has the background.

Currently, Black is the Chairman of both GEMSA and EMS Region II Regional Trauma Advisory Committee. He is a member of multiple EMS and Firefighter Councils as well as Interactive Neighborhood for Kids Board, and North Georgia Community Foundation.

Black worked part-time with Habersham EMS since 1998 and became the third Director of Habersham EMS in 2018. In his spare time, Black is a radio host on WCHM, Habersham, and Northeast Georgia Talk Radio 94.3 FM. He is a member of The Morning After team broadcasting weekdays 6:30 – 8:45 AM about the news, weather, mayhem sports, and fun.
