One EMS: Thomas Kamplain and Why He Teaches

One EMS Podcast brings the influencers and innovators in the EMS community to you. In Episode 1, Charles McFall of One EMS talks to Tom Kamplain. Kamplain is the CEO and Chief of Academic Operations at the Georgia Institute of Emergency Medical Services (GIEMS).


Kamplain began his career in 1992 as a volunteer firefighter. Now, he is helping others enter the EMS field through GIEMS. Over the last 29 years, Kamplain held a variety of jobs within the EMS field including EMT, Paramedic, Combat Lifesaver, Flight Medic, and Tactical Medic. At Grady Hospital in Atlanta, Kamplain helped establish the in-house accreditation program for EMTs and paramedics. His experience and drive to serve the EMS community lead him to education. “The day I look forward to is graduation day. Kamplain founded GIEMS to educate EMTs quickly and efficiently while maintaining high standards. Time is critical so and GIEMS combines flexibility and online education, labs, and field clinical training to help students to achieve their educations goals and serve their communities.
